Ink to Oil: The Portrait Series is a striking collection of contemporary portraits celebrating the diversity and stories of Plymouth’s communities. Plymouth, known as the "Ocean City" of the Southwest of England, is home to a rich cultural heritage and the series brings together individuals united by their passion for body art. Featured subjects come from varied walks of life, including sea swimmers, military personnel, bikers, entertainers, charity heroes, and campaigners.

The series embraces individuality across abilities, body types, heritage, and genders, reflecting the vibrant and inclusive spirit of the city.

Throughout the development of the series, Mick has had the privilege of collaborating not only with every subject to capture their story but also with major institutions, including:

Lt Cdr in Blues: A portrait of a female Royal Navy Lieutenant Commander, created in collaboration with the Royal Navy to celebrate the role of women in active service.

29 Ink & Steel: This piece, depicting an Army Commando from the 29 Commando Regiment Royal Artillery, was unveiled at the Royal Citadel in Plymouth.

A Volunteer’s Story: Representing the Plymouth RNLI, this piece was selected for the Royal Institute of Oil Painters' 2023 annual exhibition at the Mall Galleries in London.

The series was first exhibited at the Royal William Yard (18th Oct-3rd Nov '24), Plymouth’s iconic waterfront location and includes a collection of 15 completed portraits, with the final portrait of the series created in situ during the exhibition. In addition to the original paintings, a small number of limited-edition Giclée fine art prints are available, offering a unique opportunity to own a piece of this impactful collection. These prints are expertly produced to capture the essence and detail of the original artworks and are personally signed by Mick. All artworks are oil on board.
